Being mostly self-taught, Edflar Mendes incorporates elements of fine art and design into his art work. "I believe art is a way of transcending the reality of the troubled world we live in", says Edflar.
I have completed art courses in the ABRA, Brazilian academy of Art, and also courses in the Faculty of art, Design and Architecture in Kingston University London; (England) I also carry an unfinished degree in Industrial Design, by the Educational Complex FMU situated in Sao Paulo. I imagine Inspiration is floating around us at all times, the right moment, the right light, the right emotion waiting to be captured by camera lenses, pencils, brushes and etc..
I had the experience of Living in the magic city of London, England, and being directly adjacent to diversity and multiculturalism I witnessed what I personally call "The break Through", a real burst into the sea of creativity and possibilities while engaging Different aspects of the artistic manifestations in the physical world. The bridge between Brazilian and English culture and the different approaches and ideologies are what keeps me motivated to create. As a result my work is charged with polarities and dichotomies. The resolute and the unresolved play heavily in the images which in turn highlight the complexities of the human condition. ''I’m not looking for perfection, I am more interested with the near misses.''
